Kazan 2015 celebrates one year to go to World Championships!

A gigantic newspaper dedicated to the 2015 FINA World Championships was opened on July 24, one year before the start of the event, in the square near the Kazan Family Centre. The project is designed to raise Kazan citizens’ awareness of the upcoming World Championships and to help them unveil some interesting facts about aquatics and legendary figures engaged in water sports. The grand opening of this unique piece of street art was attended by Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin.

“Just a year ago, it would seem, only a short time ago, we hosted the 2013 Summer Universiade. For the first time ever we welcomed so many guests, we staged a major international event and we raised the bar on how to hold a Universiade. And today, one year before the FINA World Championships, I want to congratulate all of us – the great team led by our President, the residents of the republic and the city, the Directorate for Sports Projects – on a big day. We have a whole year of work ahead of us. We want Kazan to give the best welcome to our guests,” said Ilsur Metshin.

The newspaper, which appeared in the square near the Kazan Family Centre, left a good impression on the Mayor. “It’s an interesting project – I’m sure it will fuel tourists’ interest in the Championships. The more such creative ideas we implement, the more exciting the competition and the preparation for it will be,” Ilsur Metshin said.

As far as the technical aspect of this piece of street art is concerned, the gigantic newspaper is made of a composite panel coated with digital printing film and protective laminate. It is attached to the street surface with transparent acrylic and easily removable adhesive that leaves no residue behind when removed. All this makes the newspaper wear-resistant against walking and even riding a bike on it. The piece of street art features various activities and games.

On August 8, on the opening day of the FINA High Diving World Cup, a concert will be held in the square in front of the Palace of Farmers to celebrate "One Year to Go to Kazan 2015". Ambassadors for the upcoming World Championships will be revealed at the event.
