Mixed diving may be introduced at 2015 Kazan World Championships
Mixed diving may make its debut as a newly added event at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia, revealed FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu on day 1 of the 19th FINA Diving World Cup, organised in Shanghai, China, from July 15-20. The World Cup's mixed team event was held today with China taking first, followed by Ukraine and Russia.
According to its Executive Director, FINA is considering bringing the mixed diving event into the World Championships next year.
"We are trying hard to attract more athletes, audience and sponsors by modernising our aquatic events. We have brought high diving to the World Championships in Barcelona last year, and we have been thinking about bringing mixed diving as the next step. We will discuss the idea at the FINA World Aquatics Convention in Doha in November," he said.
Mr. Marculescu added that FINA will hold a seven-stop high diving World Series and a World Cup - the first edition of which will be launched this August - to promote the spectacular and challenging discipline.
