FINA President pays fruitful visit in Kazan
Yet again the host city of the 16th FINA World Championships, Kazan, welcomes representatives of the Fédération Internationale de Natation, FINA. Together with members of the Kazan 2015 Organising Committee, the FINA delegates will meet during two days to address key aspects of preparations for the future competition.
Among the FINA representatives who arrived in Kazan are President Dr. Julio C. Maglione, FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu, as well as several consultants and representatives partnering with FINA for the World Championships.
The inspection visit focused on such issues as provision of housing accommodation for client groups, legal and financial aspects of the future sporting event, and the marketing programme. Special attention will be given to the preparation for the first FINA High Diving World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Kazan in the summer of 2014.
On Thursday, March 27, the FINA delegates took a tour of the Kazan Arena Stadium, one of the key sports venues of the 16th FINA World Championships. For the first time in the history of FINA, a football stadium will be used for swimming and synchronised swimming events. For this purpose, two temporary pools, one for competition and one for training, will be set up on the pitch of the Kazan Arena Stadium.
Prior to the presentation, FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione and Executive Director Cornel Marculescu shared their impression of the host city’s preparation for the Championships.
“We are very pleased to be in this city. It has changed so much over the past few years. I say once more - we picked a perfect host city for the Championships. It is a very hard-working and proficient team in managing sporting events,” Mr. Maglione said of the representatives of the Organising Committee.
“Kazan is a very sports-oriented and young city. Love for sports lives in the hearts of its residents, and it is important for all of us,” said Cornel Marculescu.
