PR 89 - World League 2014 (M): Russia, Hungary, Italy and Montenegro win first round of games in Europe
Lausanne (SUI), November 12, 2013 – Russia, Hungary, Italy and Montenegro were the first winning teams of the inaugural European round of the FINA Men’s Water Polo World League 2014, held on November 12, 2013.
In Chekhov, the Russians (Group A) wrapped up a comfortable win over the Romanian team, winning 15-5. In Group B, World champion Hungary beat the visiting Greek squad in Miskolc 8-5. In Group C, Olympic silver medallist Italy defeated Germany 12-7 in Berlin while in Budva, World runner-up Montenegro proved too strong against Slovakia, winning in a tight 13-11.
The second round is scheduled for December 10, 2013. The four other rounds for these groups will take place on January 14, February 11, March 11, April 2 and 15, 2014.
The composition of the European Groups of the 2014 Men’s World League is as follows:
GROUP A – Romania, Russia, Serbia
GROUP B – Croatia, Greece, Hungary
GROUP C – Germany, Italy, Montenegro, Slovakia
Two preliminary rounds for the Americas and Asia/Oceania will be held in 2014 (locations to be confirmed) while Dubai (UAE) will host the Super Final from June 16-21, 2014.
GROUP A: RUS, 3 pts (1 win); ROU, 0 (1 loss); SRB (did not play in round 1)
GROUP B: HUN, 3 pts (1W); GRE, 0 (1L); CRO (did not play in round 1)
GROUP C: ITA, 3 pts (1W); MNE, 3 (1W); GER, 0 (1L); GER, 0 (1L)

Group A: SRB-ROU (Belgrade)
Group B: CRO-GRE (Zagreb)
Group C: MNE-ITA (Budva) & GER-SVK (Hamburg)
