PR 67 - SWC 2013: After BCN2013, 10 World Records in Eindhoven (NED) and Berlin (GER)
Lausanne (SUI), August 13, 2013 – Following the success of the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona (ESP), the best swimmers of the planet, including many World champions, gathered for the first two legs of the FINA Swimming World Cup 2013 (25m-pool) and the level of performances continued to be very high. From August 7-8, Eindhoven (NED) hosted the inaugural meet of the year’s series, where no less than six World Records were established. From August 10-11 in Berlin (GER), the saga continued with four more WR. The two meets formed the first cluster of the 2013 circuit, which will have two more in October and November.
“The decision of staging the World Cup immediately after the FINA World Championships paid off. Our swimmers were in great shape and the success of Aquatics could have an additional visibility and exposure, beyond the fantastic two weeks in Barcelona. This is certainly a model to be repeated in the future, as it was very appreciated by the athletes, coaches and the media”, considered FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione.
The World Cup will resume with the second cluster in Moscow (RUS, October 12-13), Dubai (UAE, October 17-18) and Doha (QAT, October 20-21), while the third and last cluster will take place in Singapore (SIN, November 5-6), Tokyo (JPN, November 9-10) and Beijing (CHN, November 13-14).
