Barcelona 2013 unveils medals for upcoming FINA World Championships
The medals of the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona (ESP) and various music pieces of the award and victory ceremonies were presented at the historic swim club CN Natacio-Barceloneta in the Catalan capital on June 27, 2013.
Barcelona’s Mayor, Xavier Trias, attended the vibrant presentation. “Everything we have seen today forms part of the image of Barcelona. The Championships will be in the limelight and we have to make the most of it,” Trias said.
Trias highlighted the great economic returns from the Barcelona 2013 World Championships and said that hosting the major sporting event is important for the city and its citizens.
“We would not be able to advertise what is going on in this city and what our goals are without the help of major sporting events like this one.”
Praising the hard work of event organisers, Trias said that “we live in a city of excellence” and asked for the collaboration of the public and fans of aquatic sports to make the World Championships a big success.

Maite Fandos and Fernando Carpena, co-presidents of the Barcelona 2013 Organising Committee, attended the presentation, which also served to introduce the companies that are collaborating with the event. While the medals were created by Catalan designer lagranja, the music was composed by Albert Guinovart and the Orquesta Sinfonica de Barcelona (OBC).
The big surprise was the presentation of official World Championships medals (gold, silver and bronze) that will be awarded to the most successful athletes this summer. Spain’s top athletes Ona Carbonell, Jennifer Pareja and Marc Minguell emerged out of the water with the medals around their neck.
