PR 5 - Beraud (FRA) and Brunemann (USA) win opening race in Santos
Lausanne (SUI), January 28, 2013 – On Sunday January 27 was held the inaugural leg of the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup 2013 in Santos (BRA) with 88 swimmers from 13 countries entering the race.
Newcomer Frenchman Romain Beraud took out the men’s race in 2h02m26s01. The Italians Federico Vanelli (2h02m28s22) and Matteo Furlan (2h02m30s10) claimed second and third spots, respectively. For all three medallists, this was the first podium appearance in a FINA competition. Local favourite Allan do Carmo finished fourth, touching home 0.05 seconds after Furlan.
Emily Brunemann (USA) prevailed with a solid win over the rest of the field, touching home in 2h11m18s04. Teammate Eva Fabian and Rachele Bruni from Italy went head-to-head for the touch but the American was faster, crossing the finish line in 2h11m48s06. Bruni was third in 2h11m50s12.
