PR 22 - Trieste (ITA) to qualify last four teams for London
Lausanne (SUI), April 13, 2012 – Hard-fought games are expected to be played between the nine water polo teams to compete in the Women’s Water Polo Olympic Games Qualification Tournament, which takes place in Trieste (ITA) from April 15-22 and at the end of which the four best-ranked teams will book their ticket for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The participating teams are divided in two groups, as follows:
Group A: Italy, Russia, Hungary, Spain
Group B: Greece, Brazil, Canada, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands
The Netherlands, gold medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and Greece, current World champion, are the top qualifiers in the event with Russia (world number 3), Italy, Canada and Hungary positioning themselves as strong podium contenders.
Those already qualified for the Games are Great Britain (as host, for Europe), Australia (for Oceania), the United States (for Americas) and China (for Asia).
The draw for the Olympic Games Water Polo Tournament will be held on May 5, 2012 in London (GBR).
