PR 60 - 25m-pool showdown kicks off in Dubai (UAE)
Lausanne (SUI), October 6, 2011 – Dubai’s state-of-the-art swimming venue, the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex, will provide the backdrop to action-packed and star-studded races at the inaugural leg of the FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup 2011 from October 7-8, 2011.
After hosting the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in December 2010, it is the first time that a city from the Middle East appears on the Swimming World Cup programme.
Many stars from the five continents are expected to take part in the seven-meet competition. In a span of five weeks, and after a first stop in Dubai (UAE), the series will have two main clusters: Europe (Stockholm, Moscow and Berlin) followed by three Asian stages (Singapore, Beijing and Tokyo).
A total of US$360,000 will be distributed to the winners, while an additional maximum of US$50,000 is reserved for world record breakers. The overall men’s and women’s SWC winners receive US$100,000 while those placing second and third receive US$50,000 and US$30,000 respectively. Sums ranging from US$500 to US$1,500 are also distributed to the winners of each of the 34 races at all seven meets.
Live streaming of finals will be available via FINA TV.
