OWS Coaches take the plunge in Antigua's pristine waters
A clinic for Open Water Swimming Coaches (Beginner level) took place in the turquoise-blue waters of the Antigua island (ANT) from May 18-22, 2011. Visiting American Swimming Coach Rick Powers trained 14 participants for seven sessions (three theory and four practical).
Aspects of the course included Energy systems, How to plan a season using aerobic and anaerobic training, mental training, parents educations, nutrition, open water training and race tactics.
During practice, participants took to the open water to train stroke drills and technique for all four competitive strokes. The also learned about training sets for open water swimmers.
Improvement of the participants' skills was apparent during the clinic, noted Powers. They were "highly motivated and enjoyable to work with," the much experienced coach added.
