Israeli swimmers show talent
Year 2011 started great for the Israeli swimming with participation of lots of swimmers in national and international events. Among them, Amit Ivry showed great performance at the beginning of the long course season, by winning the 100m butterfly in the "Victoria championship" at Melbourne, Australia, basing herself at the world top long-course ranking for the 100 fly event for 2011.
The Israeli open water swimmer Michael Dmitriev finished seventh in the OWS combined ranking of competitions taking place all over Europe for the year 2010 in the 5km event, proving once again that he's one of the best long-distance swimmers in the world.
Meanwhile, the Israeli team flew to Portugal for the annual "Povoa de Varzim" international meeting in Porto. The team finished second in the final contest rankings, just 45.5 points behind "Club Lombardia" of Italy. In addition, Jonathan Koplev was elected as the exceptional swimmer, by setting the best result of the meet in the 100m backstroke, and Yakov Yan Toumarkin topped the final meet medal ranking.
The Israeli National Championship will begin on February16, where all top Israeli swimmers will take part.
