Olympic Solidarity's great job in Blantyre (MAW)
Famous American coach Richard "Rick" Powers travelled to Blantyre, Malawi, to be part of the FINA/Olympic Solidarity Development Programme, giving a technical course to Beginner-level Swimming Coaches from July 11-22, 2010.
29 coaches and 10 swimmers enthusiastically attended the course, which included a wide range of topics: Physiology of training, season planning, workout organisation, dry-land training, mental training, technique for all strokes, starts and turns, motivation and tapering.
Moreover, in-water stroke drill sessions and training sessions were organised, with coaches participating on deck. A lecture for parents of competitive swimmers was given as well.
At the conclusion of the course, Rick Powers reported it was a "highly-motivated mix group of coaches, swim instructors and swimmers, wonderful to work with."
