PR49 - 200 synchro juniors ready to shine in Indianapolis (USA)
Lausanne (SUI), August 10, 2010 – About 200 young swimmers from 25 countries will compete in FINA’s most graceful and artistic discipline at the 12th FINA/eSynchro World Junior Synchronised Swimming Championships, to be held on August 11-15, 2010, at the Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI, in Indianapolis (Indiana, USA).
Since 1989, FINA has organised every other year World Championships for Junior National Teams, featuring synchronised swimmers aged 15 to 18 years old. The competition programme includes Solo, Duet, Team and Combination with each event divided into preliminaries, figure competition and finals.
13 countries will take part in the Combination, many of which are traditional world synchro powerhouses: Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine and USA. These nations, together with Finland, France and Mexico, will also take part in the Team event. Additionally, the following countries have competitors in Solo and Duet: Argentina, Belarus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Israel, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Slovakia and Uzbekistan.
The event returns to the United States for the second time; it was firstly held in 2001 in Seattle, Wash., while the last edition was held in Moscow (RUS) in 2008.
