Thumbs up for Coaches clinic in Botswana (BOT)

Development News

43 coaches from all parts of Botswana attended a Swimming Coaches clinic (Level 1 & 2) in Francistown (BOT) on April 16-20, 2010. All participants had different levels of expertise, teaching either at a junior or senior school, at university or in a club.

The Botswana Swimming Sports Association (BSSA) welcomed visiting lecturer Larry Laursen to give the clinic, which took place at the Thornhill Primary School.

Larry Laursen did not hesitate to share his great experience with the participants, who were very eager to learn; he added much value to the course content, spending time answering questions and bringing his own course material, to the delight of the participants.

During the five-day course, both levels 1 and 2 were taught to the coaches, and the content was so rich and interesting that the course could have extended over the five scheduled days. It covered all aspects of swimming coaching, and part of the course was taught at the outdoor swimming pool of the school.

All in all, it proved to be a very helpful clinic. It shows the importance of the FINA development programme, which notably seeks to provide high-level expertise and knowledge to coaches from all parts of the world, especially in those countries were swimming in particular and aquatics in general continue to grow.
