Ivan Garcia proud flag bearer at Singapore Youth Olympic Games

Federations News

The Mexican Swimming Federation announced that the diver Ivan Garcia will be the flag bearer representing Mexico at the Youth Olympic Games, in Singapore this August. This designation acknowledges the work and talent of Ivan Garcia, who is considered a rising diving star in Mexico.

Ivan García’s pet event is the 10m platform; he performs dives of a high degree of difficulty and his main results have been internationally awarded in platform synchro with German Sanchez, who participated in the FINA World Championships in Rome 2009 and the 2010 FINA Diving World Cup in China. He was also a silver medallist at the third meet of the FINA/Li-Ning Diving World Series 2010 in Veracruz.

The designation of Ivan Garcia as flag bearer for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games continues the tradition of diving to head delegations throughout Olympic Games. As a matter of fact, Ivan Garcia will be the fourth consecutive diving flag bearer after Fernando Platas in Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004, and Paola Espinosa in Beijing 2008.

On another diving matter, Mexico will send three athletes to the 2011 Diving World Series: Paola Espinosa in the 10m platform and 3m springboard (in which she showed her versatility by winning bronze at the last World Series), Yahel Castillo (fourth in the 3m springboard) and Rommel Pacheco, who made a nice comeback, ranking seventh in the 10m platform.
