Changzhou, 2010: US pair wins inaugural "Team Event"
As an initiative event at the 2010 FINA Diving World Cup, the American pair claimed the first ever team victory on the opening day (June 1, 2010) in Changzhou, China. Instead of having a men's and women's 1m springboard event (as it was the case in the last FINA Diving World Cup in Beijing, 2008), the team event in Changzhou featured one male and one female diver performing six dives on the 3m springboard and 10m platform.
David Boudia and Haley Ishimatsu from the United States beat the other 11 competing pairs to take the gold with a total of 455.35 points. Reflecting on the results, Boudia expressed his satisfaction: "I performed very well today."
The Chinese duo Luo Yutong/Wang Hao and the Russian pair Yulia Koltunova/Ilya Zakharov finished second and third, totalling 442.60 and 422.90 points, respectively.
The 2010 edition of the FINA Diving World Cup has attracted 146 divers from 33 countries.
China's Olympic champions Wu Minxia, Chen Ruolin, He Chong and Qin Kai as well as Russian legend Dmitry Sautin, Australia's Olympic gold medallist Matthew Mitcham, Canadian icon Alexandre Despatie and Mexican "queen" Paola Espinosa all compete in the event, while Britain's teen star Thomas Daley is absent.
The World Cup features nine events: mixed-gender team, men's and women's individual and synchro 3m springboard and men's and women's individual and synchro 10m platform.
The heats for the four synchro events will start on June 2, 2010.
