WPWL 2010: USA and Canada qualified for Super Final

The teams of USA and Canada assured their qualification for the Super Final of the 2010 FINA Women’s Water Polo World League, by finishing in the two first places of the Americas qualification group. After a double round of games in Mayaguez (PUR) on May 17-23, in which the teams of Canada, USA, Brazil and Puerto Rico took part, the Canadians concluded first, with five wins and one loss (15 points), while the USA was second also with five triumphs and one defeat (but with a worse goal average than the Canadians in the direct matches between the two nations). Puerto Rico was third (two victories), while Brazil was fourth, only with losses (six).

Meanwhile, in the first round of the Asia/Oceania qualification, held in Osaka (JPN), from May 21-23, China finished first, with Australia in second. The second round will now take place in Tianjin (CHN, May 26-28), with the four teams of China, Australia, Kazakhstan (third after Osaka) and Japan (fourth at home). The first two teams of this group will also play the Super Final.

As for the European groups, in which four nations will qualify for the decisive stage of the competition, the games will be held in several cities from June 9-20. The national teams of Spain, Greece, France, Netherlands, Russia, Italy, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary and South Africa will be involved in this qualification.

The Super Final of the 2010 FINA Women’s Water Polo World League will take place from June 28-July 3 in La Jolla (USA).
