Singapore's divers selected for the Youth Olympic Games 2010

Singapore will be sending three divers to the inaugural Youth Olympic Games 2010 to be held in Singapore on August 14-26, 2010. They are the following:

Chloe CHAN (girls' 3m springboard)
Myra LEE (girls' 10m platform)
Timothy LEE (boys' 3m springboard)

The divers took part in the YOG Qualifying Meet in Guadalajara, Mexico, on March 13-14, 2010, as required by FINA qualification rules in order to take up the host country places for the Games. Unfortunately, Singapore was unable to field a diver for the boys' 10m platform event.

The divers put up a respectable performance against the world’s best divers for the age group, and this, despite that they picked up the sport less than eight months ago.

Indeed, from 2007 to 2009, there was no diving programme in Singapore. As a result, the Singapore Swimming Association, with the support of the Singapore Sports Council, worked hard to re-introduce diving and therefore ensure divers would be representing the country at the Youth Olympic Games. The Games will eventually leave a legacy for the further development of the discipline in Singapore.
