PR29 - China confirms its supremacy in Sheffield (GBR)
Chinese divers dominated the third leg of the 2009 FINA Diving World Series, held in Sheffield (GBR) on April 18-19, by conquering all the eight gold medals at stake. Like in the first two legs of the competition, in Doha (QAT) and Changzhou (CHN), the Asian delegation imposed its supremacy and confirmed its status as the world number 1 powerhouse in this discipline.
Kai Qin (second in Doha and first at home), won once again the men’s 3m springboard, while Liang Huo made his first appearance in the Series with a victory in the men’s 10m platform (winning a thrilling battle with local 14-year-old hero Tom Daley) . Zi He dominated the women’s 3m springboard (triumph in Sheffield, after two silver medals in the first two stops of the circuit) and Xin Wang also started her participation in the Series with a triumph in the women’s 10m platform.
Despite the Chinese domination, many other countries had divers with medals in Sheffield: USA, Mexico, Great Britain, Germany, Cuba, Italy, Russia, Australia and Canada.
The final leg of the 2009 FINA Diving World Series will be held in Mexico City (MEX, April 24-25).
