In 1985, the FINA Bureau appointed a Long Distance Swimming Commission. Seven years later, the Technical Open Water Swimming Committee was formed in 1992. Allan M. Clarkson (GBR) was nominated Chairman of the first committee, and he was followed by Hans A. Beijer (NED, 2005-2006) and S.A. “Sid” Cassidy (USA, since 2006). The Hon. Secretaries: Dale Petranech (USA, 1992-1996), Flavio Bomio (SUI, 1996-2000) and, since 2000, Shelley Taylor-Smith (AUS).
